About the Instructors:
Jon Firestone has written several articles published
StudentFilmmakers Magazine with topics ranging from camera movement
and camera techniques to following the RED ONE Camera from conception
to new developments, and shooting with the RED Camera for his action/fantasy/science
fiction film, co-directed with Mark Steven Grove, "Gathering of Heroes:
Legend of the Seven Swords." The film stars Martin Kove (The
Karate Kid, Cagney & Lacey, Rambo: First Blood Part
II) and Christopher Atkins (The Blue Lagoon, TV's Dallas,
the cult favorite The Pirate Movie).
Jon Firestone developed and taught the 3D graphics program at the Colorado
Film School and works as a freelance director and cinematographer when
he is not pursuing his other passion as a Visual FX Supervisor and Animator.
Jon is a partner in the Denver-based production company, Asgard Entertainment.
Tim Hardy works as a freelance DP and Camera Assistant.
He attended the Colorado Film School where he first got the opportunity
to work with the RED camera through Asgard Entertainment. Since then he
has had the opportunity to work with the RED camera on numerous feature
films and projects logging over three years of experience with the RED.
He has learned the in's and outs of the RED camera and often times works
as a digital imaging technician as well as a Camera Assistant.
Scott Pelzel has been an Editor and Cinematographer for 15 years
now. He is a native of Detroit Michigan and began his career after University
as a Camera Assistant and also a Still Photography Assistant. While working
for a friend's production company shooting various projects, He was asked
to be the Editor for the company as they were purchasing a new Avid system.
Scott jumped at the chance and his journey as an Editor began. He cut
his teeth on industrials and commercials in Detroit and also shot and
edited short films with friends which became weekend projects. He lived
in Europe in 1996 where he shot and edited the German short film "Die
Klavierspielrin" (The Piano Teacher) based on a novel written by famed
Austrian writer Alfreda Jelinek. The short film won the Golden Leopard
Award for best short film at the the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
Scott then moved to New York City in 1997 and started to further his
commercial work both shooting and editing national commercials for Victoria's
Secret, Ralph Lauren, CoverGirl, American Airlines and Macy's. Scott took
a detour with his family and moved to Brazil in 2006 and lived there until
the summer of 2008. In Brazil, he continued to work on international commercial
projects as well as short films and documentaries. After returning from
Brazil to NYC in 2008, Scott has continued his work in both the commercial
and narrative world of filmmaking and has had extensive experience with
the RED workflow in production and post production as both an Editor and
Cinematographer.
