California State Universities offer help to students who are affected by Katrina. CSULA has a TVF Program available to affected students.
Several California State University campuses, including Los Angeles, are welcoming students affected by Hurricane Katrina.
CSU Los Angeles is on the quarter system. Fall classes start September 22, 2005.
CSU Los Angeles offers a TV Film Program that is strong both in production and critical studies. We have a traditional TVF concentration along with concentrations in Broadcast Journalism and Animation. Degrees are offered at the BA and MA level.
For more information about the TVF programs please contact the Department of Communication Studies at CSULA: 323-343-4200.
For specific information on eligibility see below.
For information on how to apply to the campus please go to the web site: Calstatela.edu.
Please spread the word to those who may have relatives in Los Angeles or are evacuated to this city. International students affected by the hurricane should contact the International student office.
The Chancellors office has posted a notice about these options on its web site at http://www.calstate.edu/PA/news/2005/katrina.shtml. It includes the following:
Waiving Policies:
The CSU will temporarily suspend its policies regarding (1) the requirement to document completion of A-G requirements for first-time freshmen and transfer students; and (2) waive the normal English and mathematics placement test requirements for students impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Admission Priority:
Admission priority for Katrina affected students will be in the following order:
1. California residents who had previously planned to attend institutions in the Gulf regions of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
2. Students from the hurricane-affected areas previously offered CSU admission for the Fall 2005 term.
3. Former CSU students enrolled or planning to enroll Fall 2005 at a Katrina-affected college or university.
4. Students who can document Fall 2005 admission to or recent attendance at any regionally accredited college in the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
Fees:
Students who are residents of the Katrina-affected areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, or Alabama will be exempt from payment of non-resident tuition. They will still be billed for the CSU State University Fee, all campus fees, housing fees (if residing on campus), and other appropriate fees required of enrolled students. However, CSU campuses will provide flexible deferred payment plans and account receivables as appropriate.
Student Housing:
Campuses providing access to students from the Katrina-affected areas of the states of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama will either provide on-campus housing or assist the student in securing housing off-campus.
