College and University Help

Temple wants to help

By LeAnn Erickson

Temple University here in Philly is also trying to help, see the information below and please pass it on to any students in the hurricane areas.

Temple University Offers Options to Students Affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Philadelphia - Temple University is offering students whose college plans were affected by Hurricane Katrina an
opportunity to take classes immediately.

"The tragedy that has hit schools in New Orleans and the surrounding region has shocked us all," said Provost Ira Schwartz. "Temple University wants to do what we can to help these students continue with their academic lives."

Here is what Temple is offering:

For students who were accepted by Temple but decided instead to attend a college or university affected by the hurricane, Temple is offering admission either as a matriculated student or as a visiting student.

Other local students who did not seek admission to Temple, but who were matriculated students at colleges or
universities in the affected area, may also attend as visiting students.

These students will be responsible for tuition and fees; however, because of these special circumstances payment can be deferred until October.

Because classes at Temple began Aug. 29, 2005, students are encouraged to contact Temple University as soon as possible.

Local students whose educational plans have been disrupted by Katrina should contact one of the following Temple
University representatives by Monday, Sept. 12, the last day to late register for the fall semester:
Charles Musgrove, in the Admissions Office, at 215-204-8556, or via e-mail at charles.musgrove@temple.edu

Kristen DiNovi, in the Continuing Education Office, at 215-204-2503, or via e-mail at kristen.di.novi@temple.edu

Michele O’Connor, for first-year and transfer programs, at 215-204-5662, or via e-mail moconn05@temple.edu
