UFC 2004 Best of the Best Film Festival & Screenplay Competition

Works will be considered for competition if they meet the following criteria: (1) a fiction or documentary film longer than 70 minutes for the feature competition; a short film under 70 minutes for the short film competition; or a feature length screenplay of 85 pages or more for the screenplay competition; (2) film or screenplay being submitted must have been written, produced, and/or directed by a person of color [people of African, Latin, Asian, or Native American descent]; and (3) submitted films must have a completion date of no earlier than June 2002. Feature films that do not meet the above criteria may be submitted for consideration out of competition. We will accept films that have screened at previous festivals, conferences and markets, however priority is given to UFC premieres.

Please take a moment and read through this information about submitting your feature film, short, or screenplay for consideration. The Conference Committee reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any project. Submission fees for submitted features and screenplays postmarked by June 1st, 2004 is $35 ($50 after June 1st). Submission fees for submitted shorts postmarked by June 1st, 2004 is $25 ($35 after June 1st). Final postmarked submission deadline is August 1st, 2004.

e UFC's Best of the Best Film Festival & Screenwriting Competition was created to identify, and recognize outstanding achievement in motion picture producing, directing, screenwriting, and acting in independent films and screenplays by and/or about people of color. The following awards will be presented at the UFC Awards Show on Saturday, October 2nd, 2004 in Santa Barbara, California.

BEST FEATURE AWARD (a jury prize) awarded to the best feature film screened in competition at the festival. This award is decided by a jury of accomplished motion picture industry executives and filmmakers. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the film's producer.

BEST DIRECTOR AWARD (a jury prize) awarded to the best directed feature film screened in competition at the festival. This award is decided by a jury of accomplished motion picture industry executives and filmmakers. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the film's director.

BEST SHORTY AWARD (a jury prize) awarded to the best directed short film screened in competition at the festival. This award is decided by a jury of accomplished motion picture industry executives and filmmakers. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the film's director.

BEST ACTING AWARD (a jury prize) awarded to the feature film with the best performance by an actor or actress in a film screened in competition at the festival. This award is decided by a jury of accomplished motion picture industry executives and filmmakers. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the film's actor or actress.

BEST SCREENWRITING AWARD (a jury prize) awarded to the best screenplay entered in the screenplay competition at the festival. This award is determined by a jury of accomplished motion picture industry executives and filmmakers. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the screenwriter.

AUDIENCE AWARD (decided by festival audience) awarded to the feature film that festival goers select as the best film screened in competition at the festival. Prizes consist of sponsor supported gifts and cash to be determined at a later date. Award is given to the film's producer and director
