A record crowd turned out on September 12 to participate in the Wounded Marine 5K and Kids Fun Run on the Regent University campus. "These events help out not only the wounded, but their families," said Marine Corps Lieut. Gen. Richard Natonski, the commander of Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, who was grand marshal for the event. "It's important to note today that the American people appreciate the sacrifice of their young men and women in uniform."

Tim Crowley of Virginia Beach, director of the nonprofit Wounded Marine and Family Assistance Program, has held this event in one form or another for 15 years. What began as the Toys for Tots 5K and Kids Run has become for the past three years the Wounded Marine 5K and Kids Fun Run.

Regent professor John Munday has participated in most of these events. Supporting the Wounded Marine 5K is his way of paying tribute. "The military does a lot for the countrythey risk everything," Munday said. "Every day, I am thankful for living in this country, and I try to tell them that all the time."
