Vietnamese Director Makes Feature Film Debut With 'Pearls of the Far East'

Feature film, 'Pearls of the Far East,' debuted last month in Vietnam. 'Pearls of the Far East,' by 34-year-old Vietnamese director, Cuong Ngo, is a collection of seven short stories about love, desire and loss as seen through the eyes of Vietnamese women.

Cuong Ngo was born in Saigon, Vietnam. He graduated from the Cinema and Theatre University in 2002. Cuong found his inspiration at a young age from Giuseppe Tornatore’s Nuovo Cinema Paradiso. Due to his background in performing arts, Cuong has found his passion to be directing. He has directed 2 award-winning short comedies in 2003 and 2004 at the International Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University. During his years in school, he divided his schedule between studying and working freelance in various theatre productions as an Actor and Assistant Art Director. He has worked as a Casting Director for Creative Television Production and taught performance arts for fashion models for Elite Paris Model Management. Cuong has directed and written a number of short films, such as: Oops! (2006), The White Day (2007), Dana (2007), Visual Poetry (2008), The Hitchhiker Project (2008) and his most recent film The Golden Pin (2009).
