TSL Professional Products Unveils New Fail-Safe, Plug and Play VIP Vertical Intelligent Power Mains Distribution Units at IBC 2012

VIPs Combine Intelligent Monitoring Features with Streamlined Rear-Mount Installation

Vertical Intelligent Power Mains Distribution Units

(Amsterdam) TSL Professional Products Ltd. (PPL), manufacturer of hardware and software audio monitoring, tally and power management solutions for the broadcast industry, will introduce its new Vertical Intelligent Power (VIP) range of Mains Distribution Units (MDU) at IBC 2012 (Stand 10.B41). VIP delivers all the functionality of TSL PPLs industry-leading Power Management MDUs, but in a modular, vertical format that streamlines the installation process. The unit is targeted at broadcast, IT and AV applications, or any installation needing fail-safe power distribution management.

We have developed our new VIP line of power management products as a response to customer feedback across the industry says Chris Exelby, managing director of TSL Professional Products Ltd. PPL. Any product that can streamline the installation process for a large rack of complex electronics is valuable. We specifically designed VIP to address the installation process, cutting down on the man hours necessary to build a rack of equipment. Since VIP mounts vertically at the back of the rack, valuable rack real estate is made available and re-cabling much simpler.

During installation of a traditional horizontal mains distribution unit, all connecting power cables for the equipment in a rack need to be measured, soldered and cut, which can take up to a half man-day of time per rack.Since the VIP mounts vertically to the mounting strip hardware on the back of a rack unit, the installation team need only use the existing AC cable for each piece of gear. The unit also features an A/B input to provide 100-percent redundancy, a necessary item for critical applications like transmission centres.

To warn against equipment or power failure, VIP UMDs are intelligent and can measure voltage, current, power factor and power on each of the inputs, along with providing temperature and humidity sensors. It also offers an integrated display that gives basic information and menu access to change a units IP address for multiple VIP or regular Power Management MDU installations.

The system is also modular, meaning that connectors can be customised for specific regional requirements as they are boxed up, including DC applications in the future. All of these capabilities tie in with TSL PPLs PsiMon SQL server-based control software via Ethernet, which provides alarm, control and energy monitoring of the units via a unique dashboard display. With this product, one systems manager can monitor all rack mounted equipment anywhere in the world.
