San Francisco Indie Film Co-op Presents Festival Featuring Top Local Filmmakers at the Castro Theatre

(San Francisco, CA) -- Scary Cow Productions has announced a special screening highlighting some of its best indie films from the past five years followed by a celebration party at the Castro Theatre on February 19th, 2012. Since launching in 2007, Scary Cow has made over 220 films and given over $160,000 in budget to Bay Area filmmakers.

To celebrate the 750 filmmakers assisted by this film cooperative over the past five years, Scary Cow invites the public to watch some of their best films at the first ever Prime Cuts Film Festival Extravaganza. Members of the San Francisco Film Commission, San Francisco Film Collective, local filmmakers, and other lauded members of the film community will be on hand to celebrate.

"The 5th Anniversary of the Scary Cow Indie Film Festival is proof of Scary Cow's dedication to growing and supporting the independent film community in San Francisco," said Susannah Greason Robbins, Executive Director of the San Francisco Film Commission. “This is exactly why the San Francisco Film Commission is proud to have them as part of our SF Film Collective. We are committed to helping local independent filmmakers thrive in San Francisco, and organizations like Scary Cow help make that a reality.”

“Scary Cow has been focused on helping local filmmakers from its beginning,” said founder Jager McConnell. "Bringing a festival to the San Francisco Bay Area which highlights some of the best local filmmakers at one of the most beautiful movie theatres in the world fits perfectly with our mission.”

A VIP pre-party and champagne toast kick off the festivities with local celebrities and the night’s featured filmmakers in attendance. The Prime Cuts program follows with a Scary Cow filmmaker Q&A after the screening. The evening continues with a massive party where people are encouraged to mingle with filmmakers and enjoy free drinks and food. Awards for the audience’s favorite of all the Prime Cuts will be announced during the afterparty.

Scary Cow films have been featured at the Sonoma International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, SF Indiefest and, most recently, Slamdance.

The Prime Cuts program includes the sci-fi musical "Space Man," "7 Minutes in HELL"—a horror comedy that can only be watched live, Magic Man, a silent black and white film shown in 3D, an experimental trio of mood pieces entitled The Daydream Series, and Scary Cow’s most recent awards sweeper, "Brother." A total of 13 films will be screened, each of them unique and not to be missed.
