(Portland, OR) - Audiophile Audition features daily reviews covering many music genres as well as DVDs & Blu-rays, and reviews of Surround Sound for Music (SSfM). It supports the progression of audio and video technologies toward higher resolution, rather than poor-sounding MP3 files and standard DVDs. Over 100 disc reviews from 16 writers around the world are published monthly (124 last month) - split between hi-res formats, standard CDs, and videos. Sections of the site include SACDs/Hi-Res, DVD+CD, Classical, Pop/Rock/World, DVD/Blu-ray/3D, Jazz, Classical Reissues, Audio News, Component Reviews, and Features of the Month. The publication caters to record collectors, audiophiles and home theater buffs. AUDIOPHILE AUDITION began nationally in 1985 as an hour weekly radio series carried on up to 200 outlets - both NPR and commercial stations. Program host John Sunierauthor of three books in the home electronics fieldtransitioned the program's website into an online publication in 1989, which now reaches over 50,000 readers per month who read and often purchase the recordings, downloads, AV components and loudspeakers reviewed on the site. A growing number of thrilling concert performances in all music genres are being released and reviewed on Blu-ray, which boasts enveloping lossless surround tracks. Recent additions to Audiophile Audition have been the inclusion of articles on the many hi-res download services, as well as the exciting 3D Blu-ray format. Video reviews are balanced between music videos and feature films. Audiophile vinyl reviews are now included in the Hi-Res Section, tying in with the recent explosion of re-interest in turntables and records. Surround sound is well accepted and preferred by the general public for films, both in movie theaters and in the home. Many U.S. households now have surround sound components and multiple speakers for playing the Dolby or DTS soundtracks on Blu-ray and DVD. 91% have at least one DVD player and one in four homes now has a Blu-ray deck. (HDTV penetration is now 63%.) The streaming video services are beginning to offer surround soundtracks for some films. Audiophile Audition's mission is to get consumers to make the leap from viewing movies with surround sound to sitting down to listen to music without the screen images - reproduced with the glorious envelopment of hi-res surround sound. New advanced surround systems such as 2+2+2 and encoded Aurophonie are explained and reviewed.

Audiophile Audition seeks to educate the public about SACD hi-res discs, which have shown only minimal sales though SACD boasts 64 times the resolution of standard CDs and provides up to six channels. Most sales of SACDs take place online and are primarily classical, so fans of the format appreciate the prodigious number of reviews published on the site.

Audiophile Audition is a unique online publication for disc and download collectors, audio buffs and home theater enthusiasts. All genres of music recordings are reviewed daily, with an accent on hi-res, surround sound and videos - both 2D & 3D.
