About Omega Pharma – Quick-Step (OPQS)

Omega Pharma – Quick-Step Cycling Team is a World Tour cycling team, with one of the richest histories is professional cycling. Currently made up of 29 athletes of 10 different nationalities, it is based in Wevelgem, Belgium, a city that’s symbolic to Flemish and European cycling.

The owner of the team is Mr. Zdenek Bakala, who took over the team at the end of 2010. The team is managed by a Board of seven members. Patrick Lefevere, one of the most victorious managers in the history of cycling, is the team’s CEO.

In 2012 the team captured no less than 60 victories in official UCI calendar events, a season record. Among their major successes some highlights include the Tour de Flandres and the Paris Roubaix for Tom Boonen, a man who has come to symbolize the team and a record man for victories in these two historical cobblestone races. Also worth noting is the 1st victory in the TTT World Championships we took home from Valkenburg (Holland).

In 2013 the squad has been further strengthened with the arrival of the Britain’s Mark Cavendish, with over 100 victories through his career, including Milano San Remo and the World Championships in 2011.
