Melissa J.L. Smith Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in the Entertainment Industry

(STUDIO CITY, CA) Melissa J.L. Smith, Principal at This Is Production, Inc., Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Timepiece Entertainment and freelance writer has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for her outstanding achievement in the entertainment industry.

Possessing the ability to find innovative solutions to business challenges, Ms. Smith is recognized for her broad-based experience, which has made her a power player in several arenas at most of the major Hollywood studios.

The wide bandwidth of Smith's career is reflected in the strengths of This Is Production, Inc., a consulting firm that specializes in writing and marketing services, project management, studio operations management, event coordination, post-production sound management, animation, and administration management. Having substantial experience in all of the preceding areas of the motion picture/television business, Melissa serves as a principal of the company. The company's clients include both large corporations and small businesses. Smith also is an accomplished producer/writer whose credits include documentaries, MOUNTAIN MAGIC MELODY, THE FOLKS IN THEM "THAR" HILLS, and WHAT ON EARTH IS A COAL TIPPLE?. She also was the producer/writer for the television series, CHOICE CUTS and PURE COUNTRY. Her most recent writing projects include television pilot, EV'RY ROSE HAS ITS THORN and LUCE AND WILDE.

Ms. Smith also serves as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Timepiece Entertainment where her responsibilities include the company's public relations and promotional operations, coordinating events, managing projects and marketing, and overseeing process design. Current Timepiece projects include feature films, ALL ALONE, WINGS OF ANGELS, and BRAY, off-Broadway stage play CANVAS FALCONS, and additional feature films and television shows in development.

Melissa currently is contributing to the new startup company, DialM4, which will provide the "4Ms" of Marketing, Media, Management and adMinistration (No, that is not a typo in "adMinistration". It is the fourth "M" in the services provided by DialM4.) DialM4 also is an excellent source for all writing needs, ranging from screenwriting and press kits to resume creation and business correspondence. The "adMinistration" service will offer "Executive Assistant" services to clients who need help on a case-by-case basis. Marketing services include press kits, press releases, public relations publicity and advertising. The Media services range from voiceovers to screenwriting and script doctoring, and Management services include project management, assets, personnel and other management needs.

Ms. Smith has worked in the entertainment industry for 20 years, and rather than simply weathering many changes, she has repeatedly found ways to help studios improve their bottom line. She is a veteran of Lorimar-Telepictures and Sony Pictures Studios. Additionally, she has worked for NBC Television Network, Universal Studios, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Studios.

While at Warner Bros., she served as casting coordinator on the 2008 Emmy-nominated television show, "JUSTICE LEAGUE: THE NEW FRONTIER," an experience that she finds particularly gratifying.

Throughout her career, Ms. Smith has developed expertise in post-production sound, studio operations, project management, event coordination, marketing, writing, process design, and collaboration with database programmers, and she has shared her knowledge as a public speaker in a variety of venues. She has also published articles online, in trade magazines and in newspapers.

Certified as a digital filmmaker by Travel Channel associates, Ms. Smith received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Morehead State University. Furthermore, she holds a postgraduate certification in Management and Marketing from Indiana University and a postgraduate certificate in Human Resources and Labor Relations from Cornell University. With strong interests in script doctoring, reading, and film and television editing, she maintains memberships in the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Alliance of Women in Media, Women in Film, the American Film Institute, NAMIC, and the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
