There are many factors which make a successful landscape image – the quality of light, the chosen subject matter, technical considerations such as exposure, depth of field and filtration – but none of these is more important than its composition, and ultimately, it is this which separates a successful image from an unsuccessful one, and a great image from a merely good one. Whilst recognising the importance of composition, most articles and books do little more than scratch the surface of the topic. Mark will be using his experience as a professional landscape photographer, workshop leader and author to examine in detail some of the common themes in the design of landscape photographs, including the use of foregrounds, using lines and arcs to direct the viewers’ attention, layers and planes to create depth, and the use of movement.

The webinar will be illustrated with a wide range of Mark’s landscape images.

Mark Bauer is one of the UK’s leading landscape photographers. He is a regular contributor the the UK photographic press and the author of 3 books. He is a multi-award winner and his images have been used in magazines, books, calendars and other publications around the world.
