(New York, New York) Manhattan Edit Workshop (MEWshop) and theC47 are excited to announce The Filmmaker's Intensive (TFMI), an annual two-week program that takes aspiring filmmakers out of their day-to-day environments and allows them to fully immerse themselves in the art and science of making movies. This year's program is specifically designed to provide each student an intense education in non-fiction filmmaking from some of the best documentarians in the industry.

Co-produced by theC47 and MEWshop, TFMI 2012 will take place in the heart of New York City from August 6th through August 17th. The program will include craft-based training and Master Classes from world-renowned documentary filmmakers such as Chuck Workman, Susan Froemke and David Zieff – all of whom have taught for many years and bring an unmatched passion and knowledge of the industry to the classroom.

Led by Jem Schofield, Josh Apter and a team of expert teachers, students will learn shooting, lighting, recording location sound, editing, and more through hands-on instruction in week one of TFMI. In week two, students apply their newly acquired technical expertise. Under the close guidance of TFMI Master Filmmakers, students will work together to produce and direct their own documentary films, as well as edit and screen their final cuts at the end of the program.

The program also includes hands-on and practical sessions on camera work, scouting locations, pre-production, shooting and conducting interviews, paper editing, and post-production from logging footage to final delivery.

"The Filmmaker's Intensive is a completely unique program that was designed to give creative people from all over the world the opportunity to learn the process of documentary filmmaking in a completely immersive environment," says Jem Schofield, founder and co-director of The Filmmaker's Intensive and TheC47. "Its purpose is to help people understand and then apply the principles of directing, cinematography and editing. The instructors are picked not only because of their experience, but because they are great educators. This gives people a chance to go to film school when they may have not had that opportunity in the past."

"In just two weeks, students get the real-world filmmaking experience they need to succeed, but in an environment where they can also learn as they go along. Plus, they'll leave with an expanded portfolio and a much larger network of peers and professionals."

The Filmmaker's Intensive will take place from August 6th through August 17th in New York City, at Production Central NYC and the Manhattan Edit Workshop headquarters.

Jem Schofield
Jem Schofield, producer and educator, is the founder and director of The Filmmaker's Intensive and the founder of theC47. Jem's company, Buttons Productions, produces projects and provides training for clients that include Apple, Inc., CNN, The New York Times, Manfrotto, Abel Cine and Canon U.S.A. Jem is an Apple Mentor Trainer and co-author of the Apple Pro Training Series book entitled Motion 4 Quick-Reference Guide. Josh Apter
Josh Apter is the founder and president of MEWshop, an Apple, Avid, Adobe, Autodesk and Assimilate Authorized Training Center offering a variety of classes in the art and technique of film editing. He attended NYU's Graduate Film Program, where his film, The 53rd Calypso, was honored with the Martin Scorsese Award for achievement in directing. As a film editor, Josh has worked on over ten feature films including The Holy Land (winner Slamdance FF/Cavu Pictures Distributor), Kaaterskill Falls (winner Los Angeles FF/Wellspring Media Distributor) and Barbecue is a Noun (Audience Award for best Documentary at the Rome International Film Festival and the River Run Film Festival). Josh currently is completing post-production on his second feature film, a love story about a small-time pot dealer titled Delivery Method, while also writing and developing several projects for film and television.

About the Master Instructors:
Chuck Workman (One Day Master Director's Class*) Writer/Director/Producer
Chuck Workman has over 30 years in the industry and has written, directed and produced numerous feature films, documentaries and shorts. He has received 10 Emmy nominations and has created well-known sequences for 20 Academy Awards presentations. He teaches film production at SUNY Purchase College where he was appointed a Distinguished Artist. He's currently in production on two feature documentary films, one on a world-famous actor/director, and another on several filmmakers' takes on the nature of cinema.

Susan Froemke (One Day Master Producer/Director Class*) Producer/Director
Susan Froemke is a non-fiction filmmaker with over thirty documentary films to her credit from the classic Grey Gardens (1976) to Lalee's Kin (2001), an HBO film on poverty that was nominated for an Academy Award. A four-time Emmy Award-winner, Froemke has been in production on Wagner's Dream for over three years, filming in New York, Montreal and Quebec City. Before starting her own production company in 2003, Froemke was the principal filmmaker at legendary Maysles Films in New York for over two decades.

David Zieff (One Day Master Editor's Class*) Editor/Producer
David Zieff has been editing documentaries, feature films and television for almost three decades, working in music, comedy and sociopolitical arenas, occasionally at the same time. Recently Zieff was a creative consultant on the Oscar® award-winning documentary The Cove, and edited and produced ESPN's Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks, receiving rave reviews at Sundance 2010, as well winning a Peabody Award for the doc mini-series Black Magic. Zieff edited and produced Crazy Love, a Sundance nominee and winner of the Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary. He was the supervising editor of the critically-acclaimed and multiple award-winning Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, shaping over 1600 hours of footage into a Sundance hit, and one of the most celebrated music films of all time. On television, Zieff was the senior editor of Michael Moore's Emmy-winning series The Awful Truth and TV Nation, and many signature Comedy Central shows.
