Motivated by the dire consequences of a factory shut down in his hometown of Ravenswood WV, Josh Miller explores the rise and fall of USA-made products in a new documentary film entitled “Made in the USA: The 30 Day Journey”.

In the film, Miller attempts to live on American-made products for 30 days all the while attempting to discover how America arrived at this sad state of affairs. Miller quickly realizes that the scarcity of American made products turns his travels into a daily struggle that perhaps even he hadn't anticipated. From cell phones to TV's, toilets to showers, the absence of 'Made in America' products deprived Miller of the everyday neccessities most of us take for granted.

While the film concentrates on the demise of American manufacturing, its causes and consequences, Miller also explores the effect of off-shore outsourcing on certain Service industries. During his trip, Josh visited Blue Laser Design Inc., a Columbus-based web design and marketing firm and multiple year winner of the Consumers' Choice Award. During the interview, business owner, Will Guthrie, discussed the difficulty that Blue Laser Design faces when bidding against competitors that outsource their work overseas for a lower cost. “Even though our profit margin is lower, I take great pride in keeping my employees busy in-house, and not outsourcing any of our design and development work,” Will said during the interview. Guthrie goes on to say that in addition to his loyalty to his employees, the lack of quality work from overseas providers wouldn't justify the savings.

Blue Laser Design was founded in 2000 and offers web design, branding, search engine optimization, and marketing strategies including social media and print collateral. They help clients define their target audience, create a unique message, and track the analytics. They proudly do not outsource overseas and strive to provide a quality product at an affordable price.

One of the conclusions of the film, "Made in America: The 30 Day Journey ", is that America's future as a world power and a nation with a strong middle class, depends on a thriving economy. Vital to this economy is a re-building of manufacturing and service industries that will keep more jobs at home and the country strong. In the end the promise of the 'American Dream' is inextricably interwoven with a commitment to 'Made in America'.
