Egyptian born Hosam (Sam) Khedr, owner of an online music culture site, and Anjuli Bedi, Amnesty International organizer and journalist, joined forces during the Egyptian Revolution to produce HOPE & FEAR – Egypt On The Tipping Point, a documentary film that provides a rare glimpse into the lives of four young liberal-minded Egyptians as they struggle to reshape their nation. The film follows Salman, Nada, Ammar, and Reham beyond the idealism and euphoria of the revolution. “Their story is one of aspiration and empowerment in the face of the fear and chaos that has dominated Egypt since the resignation of Hosni Mubarak” says Khedr.

“I am happy to be a part of HOPE & FEAR, for its humanistic narrative has the power to connect us to each other and to ourselves so we may unite and continue pushing for a brighter future.” –Dr. Cornel West.

Khedr and Bedi are turning to the crowd-funding source of Kickstarter to help them finish post-production on HOPE & FEAR - an epic 18-month journey that saw the crew beaten, tear-gassed, jailed, and hospitalized while filming in Cairo, Egypt.

For these two first-time filmmakers, this project has been a labor of love since day one. “Our lives have been transformed from working on this project almost as rapidly as the lives of the characters featured in our film,” says Bedi. “HOPE & FEAR is not just the title of our film - it could just as easily represent the theme of our film’s production which saw many high and low moments along the way,” adds Khedr.

“With the rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood, and an increase of Islamic fervor sweeping the land, we felt it was important to capture the lives of young liberal-minded activists attempting to shape their futures and the future of their nation," says Bedi. Khedr adds: “The goals of the revolution are far from achieved. This is, in fact, the most crucial and fragile period for Egypt and its people; that’s why we want to bring this film to life.”

In order to make a different type of documentary, one which captures Cairo’s chaotic and vibrant energy, Khedr and Bedi pulled together a stellar team of industry pros which includes Oscar-nominated director and Chairman of the Monaco Film Festival, Georges Chamchoum, Iranian-American director & DP Lila Javan, famed American intellectual Dr. Cornel West, International best-selling author Reza Alsan, and Kais Menoufy the President of the American Egyptian Strategic Alliance.

HOPE & FEAR’s Kickstarter campaign is currently up and running till Monday May 20th ending at 1am PST. No money changes hands unless the campaign reaches or exceeds its goal of $30K.
