Grammy award winners StreetRunner (producer of Lil’ Wayne), S1 (producer of 50 Cent), and Justice L.E.A.G.U.E (producers of Drake, Mary J Blige, Jay-Z, Rick Ross) offered guidance, suggestions, and ideas for aspiring Miami music business professionals at “Beat Camp”, an event held at SAE Institute Miami on May 17.

The “Beat Camp” seminar is a partnership between SAE, which was recently recognized as being the best recording and engineering school in America by Vibe Magazine, and iStandard Producers, an organization that creates networking and collaboration opportunities for professional music producers. The first stop for “Beat Camp” was SAE’s Miami campus, and the event will be presented throughout the year at SAE Institute campuses in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York.

“Attendance at ‘Beat Camp’ is an essential first-step for aspiring artists, audio engineers, and producers who want to turbocharge their careers,” says Vincent Brooks, Campus Director of SAE Institute Miami. “The education and networking opportunities for our attendees were incredible, and the knowledge gained will allow anyone who’s serious about working in the music business to make huge strides in their professional journeys.”

“Beat Camp” featured classroom discussions on producer branding, management, A&R meeting simulations, studio techniques, networking/brand building strategies, songwriter-producer synergy, sampling, and live mixing sessions. Each seminar was led by professional producers and engineers with major credits and experience, including Grammy nominees Cool & Dre (producers of The Game) and !IllMind (producer of Kanye West, Eminem, Ryan Leslie).

“I like to think of ‘Beat Camp’ as being boot camp for producers,” says J. Hatch, co-founder at iStandard. “The pros who participated in the Miami seminar injected first-hand experience into the discussion, and let attendees know that being a working music producer isn’t just about beats and grooves – it’s a business. By the time ‘Beat Camp’ was over, aspiring artists, audio engineers, and producers knew exactly what they’ll need to do next to take their careers to the next level.”
