The Golden Globes, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, recognize achievements in 25 categories; 14 in motion pictures and 11 in television. The 70th presentation of the Goden Globe Awards will take place on January 13, 2013.

Nominations are out for the 70th annual Golden Globe Awards, and the line-up is teeming with Columbia Film alumni being celebrated for their work in film and television. Kathryn Bigelow's ('81 SOA) Zero Dark Thirty received four nominations—Best Picture, Drama, Best Director (Kathryn Bigelow), Best Screenplay (Mark Boal) and Best Actress, Drama (Jessica Chastain). Steven Spielberg's dramatic feature, Lincoln, on which Antonia Grilikhes-Lasky ('11 SOA) received credit as writing assistant to screenwriter Tony Kushner ('78 CC), racked up seven nominations, including Best Picture, Drama and Best Screenplay.

Columbia alumni also worked on some of this year's biggest television shows. Zooey Deschanel received a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Television Series for her hit comedy New Girl—the show's writers are Berkley Johnson ('05 SOA), Christian Magalhaes ('10 SOA) and Bob Snow ('10 SOA). Edward McGinty ('06 SOA) is the Head Historical Researcher on HBO's smash Boardwalk Empire, which was nominated this year for Best Television Series, Drama. McGinty has also acted on the show, playing Ward Boss Al Boyd from 2010 - 2012.

Wreck-It Ralph, the Disney film penned by Phil Johnston ('04 SOA) and Jennifer Lee ('05 SOA) was nominated for Best Animated Feature.
