NASA Administrator Charles Bolden will deliver the keynote address via satellite during the 2013 NAB Show Technology Luncheon, sponsored by Ustream, on Wednesday, April 10 in Las Vegas, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB).

“Administrator Bolden has had a distinguished career in the aerospace industry, and he now leads NASA at a critical time for the agency,” said Kevin Gage, NAB chief technology officer and head of NAB Labs. “His keynote address promises to be a can’t-miss event for technology innovators interested in hearing his unique perspective on the future of space exploration.”

Bolden became the 12th administrator of NASA in July 2009 following a 34-year career with the U.S. Marine Corps, where he retired with the rank of Major General. Selected by NASA in 1980, Bolden was aboard the space shuttle for four missions between 1986 and 1994, commanding two of the missions. His flights included deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope and the first joint U.S.-Russian shuttle mission. Prior to Bolden’s nomination for the NASA Administrator’s job, he was chief executive officer of a small business providing leadership, military and aerospace consulting, and motivational speaking.

Bolden graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in electrical sciences and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps. While serving as a naval aviator in the Vietnam War, he flew more than 100 combat missions in North and South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia from 1972-1973. After returning to the U.S., Bolden earned a Master of Science degree in systems management from the University of Southern California in 1977 and became a test pilot after completing his training at the Naval Test Pilot School in 1979.

The NAB Technology Luncheon, sponsored by Ustream, will also feature the presentation of the NAB Engineering Achievement Awards and the Technology Innovation Award. The Best Paper Award, established in 2010, will also be presented to the author(s) of a paper of exceptional merit published in the NAB Broadcast Engineering Conference Proceedings.
