Coined by audience members during their standing ovation as “Cirque du Soleil Meets Lion King,” “Land Without Evil,” a multi-media stage show of aerialists, singers, fire dancers, actors and musicians in a surreal 3-D video musical with a haunting original score, will premiere on film, Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 9 p.m., at the Santa Barbara Hyatt Hotel's Ballroom, 1111 E. Cabrillo Boulevard. This event is open to the public and there is no charge for admission.

The show and film are an adaptation of the teacher/author/playwright Matthew J Pallamary’s San Diego Book Award-Winning novel, "Land Without Evil, " and is being presented by The Santa Barbara Writers Conference, where Pallamary has led workshops for the past twenty-five years.

The story, based upon true events and called “A visual feast!” by the “Houston Chronicle”, explores a native boy's conflict between the spiritual beliefs of the Mission and the visions of his father, the shaman, on their tribe's perilous journey through the rainforest in a quest for the mythical Land Without Evil.

The author, with fans like Ray Bradbury, Sci-Fi giant David Brin and world-renowned psychologist Stanley Krippner, will introduce the film and host a post-film Q & A. He'll sign books, including his Spring 2013 book, “The Infinity Zone” which recently won First Place in the prestigious International Book Awards and is an award-winning finalist for this year's San Diego Book Awards.

The journey from page to stage to screen began with real-life triumphs over tragedies of its key collaborators. Pallamary and co-director Agent Red both suffered challenging pasts and were healed by the same spiritual practices from South America.

Pallamary, originally from Dorchester, MA, survived his violent upbringing and found inspiration through shamanism in the Amazon jungle; particularly in the visionary healing plants and traditions of Peru.

Pallamary says, “I wrote about the Guarani tribe's journey in my novel and ten years after it was published, a tragic accident struck Agent Red, a world-class aerialist, when she fell from her apparatus on New Years Eve in front of 7,000 people. She barely survived the accident, suffered a fractured skull and shattered wrists, was infused with three titanium plates in her head and 36 pins in her arms, ending her career as an aerialist.”

Red suffered from PTSD, read Pallamary's book and was healed by the ancient practices of South America.

Red, Pallamary, Austin Aerial Troupe Sky Candy and 3-D Videomapper Joao Data turned this magical story into a multi-media, musical stage show at Austin's Paramount Theater.

2012 Emmy-winning filmmaker Mario Troncoso created a PBS documentary short on the making of “Land Without Evil” which will precede the film at 9 p.m. Both films will run back-to-back for approximately 90 minutes, total. Troncoso says, “Sky Candy is visually spectacular and Matthew’s story is an amazing journey for both the performers and the audience.”

Both Pallamary’s literary works and Survival International, an organization protecting the rights of tribal people, have brought awareness to the Guarani’s plight and in May 2013, a new law passed, allowing the tribe to finally return to their land, after being driven from it hundreds of years ago.

The same shamanic healing practices the Guarani died fighting to protect in 1758, brought triumph to tragedy to these two artists, who will revive the tribe’s dying culture on film in 2013; a time many believe is the age of new beginnings.

The story is also currently being courted by film producers to be turned into a feature film.
