Fifth Annual 3D Film Festival Announces Slate of 14 3D Films, 40 3D Shorts and Panels

(Los Angeles, CA) 3DFF celebrates its fifth anniversary at its new location inside Regal Cinemas L.A. LIVE Stadium 14, with additional activities taking place at the JW Marriott Los Angeles, L.A. LIVE, The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles, Club Nokia, The Conga Room and The GRAMMY Museum, all located within the L.A. LIVE sports and entertainment district in downtown Los Angeles.  

The three-day festival, presented by RealD, 3net and LG Electronics, opens Thursday, September 20th with multiple world premiere red carpet screening events starting at 7pm inside Regal Cinema L.A. LIVE Stadium 14's luxurious 800-seat Premiere House Theater featuring a new Opening Night Pre Show program that will showcase the World Premieres of Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" Music Video in 3D and Foster The People's hit single "Pumped Up Kicks" from the 3net original 3D music series "From the Basement," along with never before seen clips and trailers from upcoming studio releases such as "Silent Hill: Revelations" (Open Road Films), "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (Lionsgate), "The Hobbit" (Warner Brothers), "Rise of the Guardians" (DreamWorks Animation) and "Hotel Transylvania" (Sony Pictures Animation).

During the multi-day event, 3DFF will induct several music industry and cinema legends into the Digital Stars of Hollywood Lifetime Achievement Award Program, which is the festival equivalent of the Hollywood Walk of Fame for the 3D Industry.   New inductees include Quincy Jones and Claude Nobs, who will appear along with Roger and Julie Corman, who will screen the LA Premiere of their first 3D film, "Attack of the 50ft Cheerleader" presented by Epix, on Saturday September 22 at 10:30pm.  The Digital Stars of Hollywood Award Show will take place at the Conga Room from 4pm to 6pm earlier that same day.

3DFF will also premiere multiple 3D Documentaries during the show including "Storm Surfers 3D" and "River Monsters 3D" by 3net and the World Premieres of "Experience Montreux 3D" by Eagle Rock/Nagra and Jonathan Kay's "N'Nai Legend of the Dolphin as told by as told by Kate Winslet; Megan Fox; Gerard Butler; Ellen Page; James Franco; Isabella Rossellini; Cheech Marin; Darryl Hannah; Diego Luna; Julian Lennon; and Whoopi Goldberg which will round out the Thank God it's 3D Friday Program preceded by "Katy Perry's Part of Me 3D" and her world premiere Wide Awake music video in 3D presented by Paramount Pictures.

Following its work in progress screening at Comic-Con comes the World Premiere of "War of the Worlds: Goliath in 3D", a steampunk anime feature from Executive Producer Kevin Eastman, creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the publisher of Heavy Metal Magazine (www.wotw-goliath.com).  "A steampunk epic of war, comradeship and courage under fire," the film is also the first large-scale 3D feature to come out of Malaysia.  Set at the dawn of the 20th century, Teddy Roosevelt's America and the world are laid waste to by Martian invaders, who then succumb to Earth's bacteria.  By the time the Martians return fifteen years later, Earth's ready for the rematch with steam-powered Tripods—adapted Martian technology—and A.R.E.S., Earth's elite multinational defending force. In the crucible of combat, the young crew helming the mighty A.R.E.S. battle Tripod Goliath will be tested to the limits of their endurance and courage as they fight for humankind's very survival under the onslaught of an implacable enemy.

Written by David Abramowitz (Highlander) and directed by Joe Pearson (EPOCH INK), the film features the voice talents of Adrian Paul (Highlander); Adam Baldwin (Chuck; Firefly; Serenity; INDEPENDENCE DAY; FULL METAL JACKET); Peter Wingfield (Highlander;  24; Caprica; X-MEN 2); Mark Sheppard (Battlestar Galactica; Firefly; Serenity; IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER), Elizabeth Gracen (Highlander); Jim Brynes (Highlander; Wise Guy); Beau Billingslea (Cowboy Bebop; Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles); and Matt Letscher (Entourage; The West Wing; GODS AND GENERALS; THE MASK OF ZORRO).  WAR OF THE WORLDS: GOLIATH IN 3D makes its world premiere at 4:30PM Saturday September 22 at the Regal Cinemas at L.A. Live.  A panel featuring follows the screening with Abramowitz, Pearson, Tripod Entertainment Executive Director Leon Tan and distributor Sridhar Sreekakula.

Closing out the Best of 2012 program will be the US Premiere of "Street Dance 2" presented by Phase 4 and Vertigo Films. Directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini, the film stars Tom Conti; Sofia Boutella; George Sampson; Falk Hentschel and Stephanie Nguyen.  After suffering e humiliating defeat by the crew Invincible, street dancer Ash (Hentschel) look to gather the best dancers from around the world for a rematch.

The 3DFF Horrorshow returns this year with a Friday Double Feature on September 21.  It starts at 10 p.m. with "Piranha 3DD" presented by Dimension Films.  Directed by John Gulager, the horror spoof stars Danielle Panabaker; Matt Bush; Katrina Bowden; Jean-Luc Bilodeau; and Chris Zylka, and features cameos by David Hasselhoff, Christopher Lloyd and Gary Busey, among others.  At midnight is the US premiere of "Night of the Living Dead 3D: Re-animation" presented by Screen Media Films. Written and directed by Jeff Broadstreet, the film stars Andrew Divoff; Jeffrey Combs; Sarah Lieving; Robin Sydney; Adam Chambers; and Melissa Jo Bailey.

"3DFF is pleased to present the 5th Anniversary Edition of our ground breaking program inside our new downtown venue and we intend to show the world that not only is 3D here to stay, but it is in fact growing with leaps and bounds across all media platforms," commented Christopher Crescitelli, 3DFF Founder and Festival Director who has four projects in the festival as well including a controversial short film entitled "Leviticus" and Tim Carr's "Give me the Light" 3D Music Video, both of which will be premiering on Closing Night.
3DFF's signature 3ology Short Film Program will feature more than 40 shorts and music videos from around the globe including the Berkeley Lab's "Flying Through the Known Universe" 3D Short film which was developed in partnership with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. The shorts program will also feature "The Legend of the Seagullmen: Battle of the Deep Sea Diver" directed by David Dreyer.
