(Jersey City, NJ) Indie film enthusiasts in Jersey City, New Jersey will unite with audiences in over 200 cities spanning six continents to view the latest work of both emerging and established filmmakers from around the world when the 13th Annual Manhattan Short Film Festival screens at LITM in Downtown Jersey City on Sunday, October 2 at 7pm.
Out of 598 entries received from 48 countries, Manhattan Short selected 10 short film finalists. Countries represented this year include Australia, Canada, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland, Hungry, Peru, Egypt, and the United States. Each film is under 18 minutes in length.
The Manhattan Short Film Festival seeks to inspire a global audience while providing the opportunity to vote on their favorite film featured within the festival. Film goers will be handed a ballot card upon entry and asked to cast their vote after viewing the featured short films. Votes will be tallied at each participating venue and then submitted to festival headquarters. The winning film will be announced on the festival website at www.ManhattanShort.com on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 10:00pm.
The Manhattan Short Film Festival offers independent filmmakers a much needed platform to promote their original short features. With past finalists going on to win the Oscar in the short film category, Manhattan Short has become known as a breeding ground for the next big thing.
The Manhattan Short Film Festival will be returning to LITM, a venue reputed for showcasing emerging visual artists. Proprietor Jelynne Jardiniano first met the festival founder and director Nicholas Mason in 2004 when he was a regular customer of her establishment. They later reconnected in 2008 to bring the Manhattan Short Film Festival to Jersey City and make LITM an official screening venue.
“While the goal of any festival is to discover and promote new talent, the real aim of this festival is to bring communities together via stories from around the world,” explains Mason.
